History & Significance

The Shreemad Bhagwat Purana is one of the eighteen Mahapuranas of Hinduism. It promotes bhakti (devotion) to Lord Krishna, integrating themes from the Advaita (monism) philosophy of Adi Shankara, the Vishishtadvaita of Ramanujacharya and the Dvaita of Madhvacharya.

It was composed in Sanskrit and is available in almost all Indian languages. It is a dialogue between King Parikshit and Sage Shukadeva Goswami. The Katha is a seven-day narration (Saptah) of this holy scripture.
